NEUROPLASTICITY DEFINED
There is area of neuroscience that studies the effects of change in the brain and it is called neuroplasticity. Researchers believe that our thoughts can change the structure and function of our brains and Neuroplasticity is therefore the ability of the brain to adapt and change. Neuroplasticity affects the treatment of trauma and disease, provides improvement to cognition, attention, memory, performance and creativity.
“Neuro” means nerve cells or neurons and “plastic” refers to the modifiable nature of our brain and nervous system. It is the process by which neurons create and reorganize connections between cells to adapt to injury, environmental changes, or experiences or situations. Neuroplasticity explains how a person with brain injury can regain the ability to walk as healthy regions of the brain adapt to take over the responsibilities of the injured region. Neuroplasticity also encompasses the changes that take place in the brain during learning and memory formation. Neurogenesis is the birth of new cells and I talk about that here.
One question I have is if thoughts have the power to change the brain structure what effect does positivity and negativity have on the brain?
